Vote Blue? (Don’t) Go Green

In the lead up to the London Elections it has emerged that David Cameron intends to abandon plans for “green” taxes amid fears of a backlash from voters who may be unhappy about having to pay for climate change.

You probably recall that Cameron has faced his fare share of controversy for his plans to increase tax on air travel, polluting cars and food packaging whilst taking himself off on a winter sun break in South Africa after urging people to holiday in the UK.

Well, in a leaked policy paper commissioned by the Tory leader he is warned that action on the environment is too often seen in terms of “consumer sacrifice”. And the secret report penned by the Cons environment spokesman, admits that Cameron’s green stunts are unpopular.

So much for vote blue go green! But then, what did we all really expect?
