Thameslink Campaign update

Next Monday evening (18 July), my colleague Councillor Simon Wales will bring a Motion on our campaign to save the Thameslink Loop line route* to Sutton Council for debate.

The Motion will ask the Council to resolve to lobby the Department for Transport to secure a through route for the Thameslink loop line after 2016 and enlist the support of all elected representatives in the affected boroughs, including the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson in our campaign to help local commuters by ensuring the future of the route.

Tom Brake MP for Carshalton & Wallington has pledged his support to our campaign and has agreed to bring it to the attention of the All Party Thameslink Group in the House of Commons.

The meeting will be held in the Europa Gallery at the Civic Offices and this item is likely to be later in the evening – possibly after 9pm. Timings will be clearer by the end of the week.

*Under Network Rail's plans the current route from Sutton to St Albans which passes through Farringdon, St Pancras International and Luton Airport will be forced to terminate at Blackfriars to allow other new services to use the tunnel under the River Thames.
